Automotive Mobility Dealer

About

An Automotive Mobility Dealer is a motor vehicle dealer who exclusively engages in the business of selling, offering to sell, or soliciting or advertising the sale of adapted vehicles; or possesses adapted vehicles exclusively for the purpose of resale, either on the dealer's own account or on behalf of another, as the dealer's primary business; or engages in the business of selling, installing, or servicing; offering to sell, install, or service; or soliciting or advertising the sale, installation, or servicing of equipment or modifications specifically designed to facilitate use or operation of a motor vehicle by an aging or disabled person.

An adapted vehicle means a new or used motor vehicle especially designed or modified for use by an aging or disabled person.

Requirements

An applicant of an automotive Mobility Dealer License shall certify compliance with the following.

(a) T.C.A. 55-9-201 et seq. regarding the required equipment of Vehicles operated in Tennessee

(b) 49 C.F.R. 567 regarding the modification and alteration or motor vehicles

(c) 49 C.F.R. 571 Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards

(d) 49 C.F.R. 595 regarding make inoperative exemptions.

New vehicle dealer license:  $400 per line make
Mobility vehicle dealer license: $400
Used vehicle dealer license:  $400
New motorcycle dealer license:  $400 per line make
Re-inspection fee:  $400
Name change:  $400
Salesperson license:  $35

Additional

Salesperson Application

All applicants who are applying for relocation must submit an application and receive a relocation inspection by Commisssion field staff. The application form for relocation is found here.

All licensees can renew online, but must submit proof of bond and insurance prior to approval.
