Burning Permit

About

Burning permits are required in Tennessee for outdoor burning of legal materials from October 15 to May 15.  These outdoor burning permits are issued by the Tennessee Department of Agriculture, Division of Forestry.  Permits are issued only for burning woody material grown on the site of the burning.  Permits are issued by phone during regular business hours.  Permits for burning no larger than 8' x 8' may be obtained online.  Note that local governments sometimes have their own permit requirements.

Requirements

A series of questions are asked of the permit applicant, which include name, address, phone number, address of where the burning will be done, time of burn, and material to be burned.

Fees

There is no charge for an outdoor burning permit issued by the Division of Forestry.
