In order to obtain certification as an alarm systems contractor the company must submit application for certification to the Board. The applicant must employ a "Designated Qualifying Agent" who is licensed by the Board, and is in a management position, responsible for overseeing the quality of operations of the alarm systems contractor. This individual must be licensed in the same classifications (i.e. FIRE, BURGLAR, CCTV, MONITORING) as the applicant for company certification in order to obtain company certification in those categories.
The company applicant shall provide documentation of the required city and/or county business tax licenses, and shall provide a certificate of insurance documenting compliance with the requirements set forth in T.C.A. 62-32-315.
Classifications of alarm systems contractors are as follows:
(a) Fire alarm system
(b) Burglar alarm system
(c) Monitoring, and
(d) Closed Circuit Television
Requirements
Application Requirements:
- Completion of Application found here
- Submission of necessary application fee
- Have a regular place of business at a permanent fixed location
- Have a business license or licenses for the city and county in which the business is located
- Provide proof of insurance
- Submit an application for certification with the notarized signature of a qualified agent licensed by the board (or applying for) the classifications of alarm systems being applied for.
- Submit applications for registration of all employees on forms found here and be accompanied by registration fees
- The application shall disclose any and all persons, firms, associations, corporations or other entities that own or control a ten percent (10%) or greater interest. The board may require FBI/TBI background checks and other information deemed necessary from any individual, firm or business owning or controlling ten percent (10%) or greater interest and may withhold certification until the information is satisfactorily produced and verified.

Application Fee: $500
License Fee: $50 per classification
Additional Classification Fee: $100 per classification added

Single classification: $250
Multiple classifications: $400

Renewal Requirements:
Alarm Systems Contractor Company certifications licenses expire the last day of the 24th month following issuance. This profession does not currently renew online. In order to renew the licensee must pay the applicable company renewal fee, submit an application for renewal, and must list all alarm contractor employees, applicants, and qualifying agents and must pay the required fee to renew each “active” alarm employee:
In order to renew the registrations of its employees, an alarm systems contractor shall submit to the Board:
Board approved form containing a notarized statement of the contractor’s designated qualifying agent or chief executive officer which identifies the number of registrations being renewed as well as a list containing the name and registration number of each registered employee which the contractor is required to renew; and
Renewal fee required for the renewal of each registration.
Grace Period
The grace period for your license is 90 days. When you renew during the grace you are charged a late fee of 10% of renewal fee for each month late within grace period.
After grace period, will need to request reinstatement of license. After processing this request will be notified steps to reapply for license.
Change of Address
For Registered Employees or Qualifying agents, a change of address is reported through your core.tn.gov account. After you log in or create an account, you will choose the “My Licenses or Permits” tab, select your credential, then select the Change Address option. There is not a fee for a home address change.
