Extinguisher technician means an individual who may perform the work of installing or servicing portable fire extinguishers or installing or servicing fixed fire extinguisher systems and who services portable extinguishers or fixed systems only under direct supervision of a licensed extinguisher specialist.

Requirements

  • Complete an application with a payment in the amount of thirty dollars ($30.00).
  • Submit satisfactory proof of the applicant’s successful completion of a manufacturer’s examination and school (Tenn. Comp. R. & Regs. 0780-02-14-.06(1); and
  • Be eighteen (18) years of age or older (Tenn. Comp. R. & Regs. 0780-2-14-.09(1)).
  • Complete and pass State Examination for portable fire extinguishers, fixed fire extinguishers or portable and fixed fire extinguishers.

TechnicianPermit Fee: Thirty dollars ($30.00)

Renewal Fees

Technician Renewal: Thirty dollars ($30.00)

Late fees

If a Technician’s permit has been expired for no longer than ninety (90) days, the fee for renewal is forty-five dollars ($45.00). If the permit has been expired for longer than ninety (90), days but less than two (2) years, the fee for renewal is sixty dollars ($60.00). If the permit has been expired for two (2) years or longer, the permit may not be renewed, and the applicant will have to meet all requirements for a new permit. A technician may not continue to perform the work of an Extinguisher Technician with an expired permit.
