Fire Extinguisher Specialist
About
Extinguisher specialist means an individual who is or is designated to be in active and responsible charge of the work of installing or servicing portable fire extinguishers or installing or servicing fixed fire extinguisher systems.
Requirements
- Complete an application with payment in the amount of seventy-five dollars ($75.00). (Please note this includes an individual license fee and a twenty-five dollars ($25.00) non-refundable application fee).
- Submit satisfactory proof of the applicant’s successful completion of a manufacturer’s examination and school (Tenn. Comp. R. & Regs. 0780-02-14-.05(1)(b);
- Submit a written statement from the firm for which the applicant works, supporting the applicant’s competency to act as an extinguisher specialist (Tenn. Comp. R. & Regs. 0780-02-14-.05(1)(a); and
- Be eighteen (18) years of age or older (Tenn. Comp. R. & Regs. 0780-2-14-.09(1)).
- Complete and pass State Examination for portable fire extinguishers, fixed fire extinguishers or portable and fixed fire extinguishers.
- Submit certificate showing proof of qualification to engage in hydrostatic testing if employed by a firm conducting hydrostatic testing.

Renewal Fees
Specialist Renewal: Fifty dollars ($50.00)
Late fees
If a Specialist’s license has been expired for longer than ninety (90) days, the fee for renewal is seventy-five dollars ($75.00). If the license has been expired for longer than ninety (90) days, but less than two (2) years, the fee for renewal is one hundred dollars ($100.00). If the license has been expired for two (2) years or longer, the license may not be renewed, and the applicant will have to meet all requirements for a new license.
