Fire Extinguisher Firm/Branch
About
Firm means any person, partnership, corporation or association offering service and servicing of portable fire extinguishers or fixed fire extinguisher systems, including installation;
Requirements
- An application for a certificate of registration as a firm must be signed by the sole proprietor, by each partner of a partnership, or by the president and secretary of a corporation or organization (Tenn. Comp. R. & Regs. 0780-02-14-.03(1))
- A surety bond shall be executed by the applicant and a surety company authorized to do business in this state, made payable to the state of Tennessee in the amount of ten thousand dollars ($10,000). The bond shall be for the use and benefit of any person who may be injured or aggrieved by a wrongful act or omission of any employee, servant, officer or agent in the conduct of business of the fire extinguisher system firm. Any person so injured or aggrieved may sue directly on the bond without assignment of the bond.
- Written consent for representatives of the Division to enter, examine, and inspect any premises, building, room, or establishment used by the applicant while engaged in the business to determine compliance with the provisions of Tenn. Comp. R. & Regs. 0780-02-14
- A statement detailing the applicant's qualifications (including education and experience) to engage in the business; and
- Before granting a certificate, the Division (or an individual or agency approved by the Division) must determine that the applicant maintains a shop sufficiently equipped to enable the firm to service adequately the portable fire extinguishers and/or fixed fire extinguisher systems which it sells and installs.
Fees

Firm Application Fee: Fifty dollars ($50.00) (non-refundable)
Total Fees Due: Three hundred and fifty dollars ($350.00)
Hydrostatic Testing: If the firm intends to perform hydrostatic testing of fire extinguishers, the applicant must pay a fifty dollar ($50.00) fee with the application.

Branch Application Fee: Fifty dollars ($50.00) (non-refundable)
Total Fees Due for Each Branch: One hundred dollars ($100.00)
Renewal Fees
Firm Renewal Fee: Two hundred dollars ($200.00)
Branch Renewal Fee: Fifty dollars ($50.00)
Hydrostatic Testing Renewal: If the firm intends to continue performing hydrostatic testing of fire extinguishers, the applicant must pay a twenty-five dollar ($25.00) fee with each renewal.
Late fees
If a firm’s certificate of registration has been expired for no longer than ninety (90) days, the fee for renewal is three hundred and fifty dollars ($350.00). If a firm’s certificate of registration has been expired for longer than ninety (90) days but less than two (2) years, the fee for renewal is five hundred dollars ($500.00). If a firm’s certificate of registration has been expired for two (2) years or longer, the certificate of registration may not be renewed, and the applicant will have to meet all requirements for a new certificate of registration. A firm may not continue to offer service or service portable fire extinguishers or fixed fire extinguisher systems with an expired certificate of registration.
If a branch’s certificate of registration has been expired for no longer than ninety (90) days, the fee for renewal is seventy-five dollars ($75.00). If a branch’s certificate of registration has been expired for longer than ninety (90) days but less than two (2) years, the fee for renewal is one hundred and fifty dollars ($150.00). If a branch’s certificate of registration has been expired for two (2) years or longer, the certificate of registration may not be renewed, and the applicant will have to meet all requirements for a new certificate of registration. A branch may not to continue to offer service or service portable fire extinguishers or fixed fire extinguisher systems with an expired certificate of registration.
Additional
- Every firm shall maintain a specific business location, which shall be indicated on the certificate.
- Each certificate shall be conspicuously posted on the premises of the firm office for which it is issued.
- A change of ownership of a registered firm, or branch office thereof, invalidates the current certificate. To assure continuation of the business, an application for a new certificate should be submitted to the Division, not less than fourteen (14) days prior to such change.
- A change of name, location, or mailing address requires a revised certificate. In the event of such change, the certificate holder shall, within fourteen (14) days thereafter, send to the Division
