Engineer

About

Engineers use the knowledge of mathematical and natural sciences to develop ways to utilize the materials and forces of nature for the benefit of mankind. Engineers practice in a wide range of disciplines, from traditional disciplines like civil, mechanical, and electrical, to more specialized disciplines like nuclear and industrial.

Applicants must attest that they meet 1 of the 3 paths to licensure:

  1. Graduation with an EAC/ABET accredited undergraduate engineering degree (4-year minimum) or a degree in engineering that has been determined to be substantially equivalent by our Board.
  2. Graduation from a four-year curriculum leading to a baccalaureate degree approved by the board, completion of post-graduate coursework in engineering curriculum leading to a master's degree or higher in engineering approved by the board.
  3. Graduation from an ABET/ETAC accredited engineering technology curriculum of four years or more that is approved by the board, holding a post-graduate degree in engineering from an institution with an ABET/EAC accredited undergraduate engineering program approved by the board.

Fees

Exam Application Fee: $30

Comity Application/Reapplication Fee: $55

Biennial Registration/Renewal Fee: $140

Late Renewal Penalty Fee: $10 (per month or fraction of a month for six months following registration expiration date)

Duplicate Wall Certificate: $25

Additional

  1. Application

  3. Five (5) professional references (three must be from registered engineers) which demonstrate the experience required for the pathway selected (4, 8, or 12 years)
  4. Official transcript(s)
  5. Verification of registration or examination from other state(s) (comity and reapply only)
  6. Examination: provide proof of passing both the NCEES Fundamentals in Engineering (FE) exam and the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) exam. The FE exam may be waived for those that qualify under the long established practice pathway.
  7. Continuing education documentation (reapply only)

Note: If an applicant has a National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) record, the references (provided they meet the requirements of Rule 0120-01-.09 and are less than two years old), transcript(s), and verification(s) in the record will be accepted and do not need to be submitted separately.

Renewal Requirements

Grace Period

The grace period for your license is 6 months. When you renew during the grace you are charged a late fee of $10 per month.

After grace period, yet still within 4 years of expiration, applicant is only required to provide either proof of 24 PDHS or an active out of state license. If more than 4 years since expiration, then 5 references are additionally required.

Continuing Education: How many education hours do I need?

24 PDHs are required to be completed prior to license renewal. Evidence of these PDHs is not required to be submitted unless audited by the Board.

Continuing Education: How do I check status of my education?

Registrants are required to maintain records of their continuing education for a minimum of 4 years after the date of the program or activity.
